About

Hello and welcome to 'Pembrokeshire Paths'.

Background

Following a lifelong interest in countryside walking Pembrokeshire paths was established in 2004 by Andrew Dugmore with the active support of his wife Iris Dugmore.

Andrew and Iris have walked the paths of Pembrokeshire for many years. The birth and care of their 4 young children restricted their walking pursuits a little for a few years but now that the children are up walking and running, Andrew and Iris are back exploring and seeking out the best of Pembrokeshire paths, often with all four children at their tails.

Guided walking tours

Pembrokeshire paths piloted a walking tours porgramme for 2007, which included transport from Tenby, Saundersfoot and Narberth.  The walking tours included guided walks of the best parts of the hidden heart of Pembrokeshire and the walks finished with a meal at one of the local pubs or restaurant.  The walkers were then transported home back to their pick up points.

Andrew and Iris are both first aiders and are insured to lead guided walks.

Walking holidays

Pembrokeshire paths have organised and led a number of guided walking holidays around Pembrokeshire during 2006 and 2007 for a national holiday company and would like to extend their Guided walks holidays programme,

Pembrokeshire paths would welcome any interest from other holiday companies or walking groups.

Walking trails researcher and advisor

Andrew has excellent experience of researching the Pembrokeshire footpath network and has been an advisor and researcher for Planed ( the rural community development agency for Pembrokeshire) .  He has researched a number of themed walking trails for Planed in North Pembrokeshire and has been instrumental in the promotion and writing of the following trails:

Preseli Circle walking trail - a 70 mile walk around the Preseli hills including the Pembrokeshire coast path from Fishgaurd to Cardigan, the Teifi gorge, the Preseli ridge and the Gwaun valley.

The Frenni trails - 4 circular walking trails around Crymych, including a walk to the Bluestones.

Landysilio and Clunderwen community walks - 6 circular walks linking the two communities.

Pembrokeshire paths can also offer a tailored research and advisory service for the development of promoted themed walking trails.  Please talk with us and we can advise and work with your company, group or community to successfully complete a themed walking trail with interpretive walking guide material and advice on the promotion and encouragement of actively walking the final product.

Walking festivals

Andrew has extensive experience of researching the Pembrokeshire footpath network and of organising and leading walks.

Andrew organised and led guided walks for the Frenni Trails mini walking festival 2004 and 2005 and has also led the infamous 17 mile walk along the Preseli ridge for the Newport Bay Spring festival 2006 and 2007.

Andrew has recently visited the Anglesey walking festival with Planed and is currently pondering the future of walking festivals in Pembrokeshire.

Voluntary and community walks

Both Andrew and Iris have been involved in organising and leading voluntary community walks and walking groups.  Andrew helped set up the Crymych walks group and also established the Llandysilio and Clunderwen community walks group.  Andrew and Iris have both been volunteer walk leaders for the "Steps2health" walk programme and have completed the volunteer "Steps2health" walk leader training.

In 2001 Andrew led a voluntary group around the Pembrokeshire coast path and one of the aims of the group was to encourage and support people who had suffered mental health problems.  One positive outcome of this walking group was that a pilot steering group was formed to establish a drop in centre in Narberth for those suffering mental health problems.  Andrew was founding chairman of this initiative and the day centre is still successfully running and is managed by the charity Hafal.

Autumn 2007 Andrew is again facilitating a walking group that will offer an encouraging and supportive environment for those who have suffered mental distress.  The group is currently being run as a voluntary group and is open to anyone who feel that they may benefit from the health benefits of a social countryside walk .  The clinical term for the therapeutic benefits of countryside walking is Ecotherapy.

To sum up Pembrokeshire paths have a unique portfolio and a wealth of expericence of the complete walking package.
