We will follow along some truly memorable landscapes which will speak to us of remarkable people and incredible events from previous times.
Pembrokeshire paths can guide you along the well known paths of Pembrokeshire and we can also lead you into the hidden heart and secluded retreats of Pembrokeshire.
Our walking programme includes :
The Pembrokeshire Coast path.
The Preseli walking trail.
The Landsker Borderlands trail.
The Frenni Trails.
Llandysilio and Clunderwen community walks
St Davids headland - in the footsteps of the Celtic saints
We have extensively researched a number of paths with the hidden heart of Pembrokeshire, journeying along a choice of two tranquil and secluded river valleys. The mysterious Gwuan valley, and the rural retreat of the Cleddau Ddu.
Hearing strange stories of isolated Gwaun folk and how the Cleddau Ddu provided the cradle for the early foundations of the worldwide Baptist Church.
We will hear further stories about the character of our local Welsh peoples and how they have stood up to and stifled the plans and movements of the authority of the land.to pursue a fair and just cause, including the uprising of Rebecca to lead the Rebecca rioters to smash down the the toll gates.
On completion of our walk our journey will usually continue to one of our local restaurants/cafe where we will get the chance to further enjoy each others company and to cement old and new friendships. Some of our stops will be particularly interesting such as "Bessies" in the Gwaun valley, a pub genuinely taking us back in time, nothing has really changed here for many years.
The following is a selection of guided walks from the Summer guided walks programme 2007.
Beneath the Preseli hills – a 2 ½ m walk along the beautiful hidden valley of the Cleddau Ddu. Visiting Rhydwilym a cradle for the worldwide Baptist Church. We will hear about the character of the local people, people ready to stand up for their cause and concern. Thomas Rees of Carnabwth was believed to be Rebecca of the Rebecca riots.
The timelessness of the Gwaun valley – step back in time and follow a 4 ½ mile path descending down into the secluded and mysterious Gwaun valley. The path follows over Foel Eyri ( the hill of the eagle ) and our descent will reveal some strange and mysterious stories of Gwaun folk and we will learn about St Brynach as he contemplated upon Carningli - the mount of angels.
Our final resting stop and watering hole Dyffryn Arms, will really take us back in time.
The Preseli path – a 3.5 m path will lead us to the highest point in Pembrokeshire (the easy way) where we will hear tales of King Arthur's battle with the Twrch Trwyth as narrated in the book of Welsh folk lore “The Mabinogian”.
Bluestone trail – a 4 mile trek along thethe ancient trading route "The Golden Road" to the Bluestone quarry, the source of the stones for the inner circle of Stonehenge.
We will think upon the magnitude of the transporting of these stones but we can only wonder how?
Please wear suitable footwear and rain gear, paths muddy in places and weather can change.
Be aware that there are some steep sections on the paths.
